PATTERN DESIGN

Trained in Textile Design at Winchester School of Art, London based artist and designer, Gina Pipét presents a selection of work in association with Steve Craig for the Givingallery. The artworks on display are a representation of works from a creative design based portfolio. Hand drawn imagery of texture, line and form, which originate from observation sketches and photography, are worked and developed into the starting points for the subject of a design. By experimenting with varying scales and exciting colour pallets within her work, these individual motifs are transformed into intriguing and attention seeking patterns.

Throughout her collections, the artist covers a wide range of subject matters, varying from curious musical instruments and ornate figurines to mechanical engines and antique scientific toys. Looking past the initial appearance of objects and breaking down the familiar construction, allows line and form to be considered in an alternative way. Newly structured images and forms are created, altering our initial perceptions and breaking familiar associations of the subject.

Applied to both Fashion and Interior projects, these designs lend themselves tremendously to decorative repeating patterns. The detailed content in each all over pattern, also allows the motif to work extremely successfully as individual hand painted art pieces.
