The Givingallery is also pleased to anounce that it will be showcasing Gina Pipet at The Millfield Arts Centre from 10th June - 5th July 2008.
Open evening to all wishing to chat with the artists 20th June 5-9pm.
Thank you for looking at the site.
The Gallery has its final show in its current season at Millfield House.
The show is a retrospective of local artist Steve Craig, showing a selection of paintings and photography from 1976 – the present day.
The Gallery is also showcasing its first artist to come on board.
Her work makes for a strong contrast with the other work on show and she is featured on on this site.
The Givingallery has certainly raised consciousness about the issues surrounding ME and some money to go towards national ME charities. At the end of June there will be a final accounting of exactly how much, as there are some negotiations still going on re works and donations. But a big thank you to all who have attended. Your feedback is as important as any purchase, and it’s been more than encouraging.
Steve Craig’s retrospective will raise money for the leaside trust.
The original works are for sale by negotiation, if you like the work and wish to own it name your price. This novel way of purchasing originals is a way of placing affordable art into the community. Please remember though all proceeds are going to charity. The artist is donating his time and materials to this amazing organisation which deserves every penny.
We have been encouraged by Millfield house to show the galleries work next year in February 2009 and November 2009, so if you are an artist looking for a first exhibition in a public space drop a line in the guestbook, and we will be in touch.
This will not cost you anything, its part of our mission to support new artists of any age and discipline, who are committed to their craft.
So if you are in the area on Friday 20th June between
Check out the work the leaside trust do at www.leaside.co.uk
A map is available here, so please come and take a look!
What we're about
The purpose of this Gallery.
Is to showcase new artistic talent irrespective of style, age, training and background.
It's aim.
To show that there is exciting undiscovered creative talent in the 'real world ' outside the gallery system, which by its very nature only showcases established artists work that commands a high sale value.
Commercial galleries also have to charge high commission rates for their very survival. This makes it prohibitive for those starting out in the business of making art.
The Givingallery is based on the philosophy that irrespective of our belief systems and cultural background a better world is a world where we all put something back into society.
The assumption is that creating all forms of visual arts is a gift.
When we are given a gift it's accepted practice to say thank you.
The Givingallery will provide a framework to give something back, as a thank you for being lucky to have, or to have developed those gifts in the first place.
So how does this work?
The Gallery will run regular themes across the year. The themes will be linked to a local or national charity, or a concern that needs to be highlighted.
There may be a small admin charge for work submitted on line.
The charge will cover the running and the development of the Givingallery.
As the resident artist any ofmy work sold will go directly to charity
Givngallery artist will state what percentage of the sale value of each piece their work is to go to charity.
The work when resold at a future date will also be tithed to the same charity.
(Giving one tenth of the resale value to the charity or if it no longer exists to similar charity supporting the same work.)
As the artist work gets more established so the fundraising for charities will expand.
So everyone benefits, or that’s the theory.
In addition to the themes, it is hoped that developing artists will be able to have much needed constructive feedback whilst showcasing their work, through an online community, which will be the Givingallery.
Steve Craig.
Founder.
